National High Five Day!!

The third Saturday in April (this year it is the 19th) is National High Five Day! A day to give everyone you see a high five; this includes friends, family, and total strangers. Usually, high fives are for celebrating victories and special events, but not today. Although it is referred to as “national” it was not passed to be considered a national holiday. This day was created in 2002 by some college student from the University of Virginia. The act of giving a high five dates back to 1977, where they were exchanged during a basketball game. There is even a website on national high five day that you can go on to help raise money by giving high fives for cancer research at http://www.nationalhighfiveday.com/. So, make sure to give high fives to everyone you see on April 17!!

Snow--In April??!!!

Snow in April in Kansas? Snow! Yes, a day after a strong line of thunderstorms moved through, it was snowing. Kingman ended up going from 80s to snow as temperatures reached into the 80s Saturday and then Sunday evening it was snowing.  This year Kingman has had a lot of snow. Kansan’s weather is “Bipolar."  Because of all the snow, schools have been canceled a lot more than normal. At least five April calendar days have tallied over a foot of snow, dating to 1874. Some cities in the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast pick up April, even May snowfall, in some years.  The Black Hills of South Dakota are known for piling up several feet of snow in spring blizzards.  The May 2008 blizzard dumped up to four feet of snow there. The rest of this week has some more weather drama to play out.  It will warm back up Wednesday before another cold blast and a storm approaches the area Wednesday night and Thursday.

Vacation Spot of the Week

The vacation spot of this week is Atlantis resort and casino in the Bahamas. Atlantis is a very good family vacation spot. It has something for everyone!  It has a water park for the kids during the day, and it has a casino for parents in the evening when the kids are resting from swimming all day.

Check it out!!

Happy Easter!!

Easter is coming up, so you know what that means! Get out the eggs, baskets and candy! Some people prefer having plastic eggs, but other people prefer sitting down with their children and coloring their own hard boiled eggs.  Here are some fun facts that you can think of during your Easter! The act of painting Easter eggs is called Pysanka.  Over 90 million chocolate bunnies are produced and sold during the Easter season.  A poll was taken, and 76% of people admit to eating the chocolate bunny’s ears first.  Can you blame the 82% of Americans that say they’d rather have a chocolate bunny than an actual bunny? What would you prefer an actual bunny or a chocolate bunny?  Easter falls on Sunday, April 20.  Easter is a great time to go outside and hunt for plastic eggs and candy!  So, what are you doing for Easter this year?
