Meet the Coach

If you think you know Ms. Stimatze, think again! Ms. Stimatze is the eighth grade girls Kingman Middle School basketball coach. Although she has only coached two years at this school, she has coached altogether ten years at Dodge City, Santana, and Kiowa, Colorado. She thinks that the players have been improving this year. She thinks both seventh and eighth grade will place high in the tournament this year. She has been involved with athletes her whole life, but it all started in Macksville Grade School and High School. She likes to coach because she likes to be able to teach young ones to play. Other than coaching, she is an art teacher, mom, and a grandmother. She is also a volleyball coach and she used to coach track. If she had to give up coaching, she would like to travel to new places. Now you know a little more about the basketball coach, Ms. Stimatze.

Do You Know Our Coach??

You should get to know our coach, Jon Spexarth?  We interviewed him this week about his career as a teacher/coach.  We asked him why he wanted to be a coach; he said “To work with the fine young men of Kingman, Kansas.”  He attended Newman University for his education.  We asked him where he lived before he came to Kingman, he said “Valley Center.”  Mr. Spexarth worked at a truss plant before he became a teacher.  He played basketball at Halstead High School.  Coach Spexarth likes our new Coach Powell, he thinks he has skill and game.  Mr. Spexarth thinks the team will pull off an upset and be outstanding in the tournaments.  Coach Spexarth’s favorite college team is Iowa.  He has been coaching basketball for two years at Kingman. Coach Spexarth plans to coach at Kingman as long as he can.  Do you know him now?

What Have You Been Doing Since We've Been Back to School???

First, we stopped by Mrs. Osner’s kindergarten class to see what they have been up to since all of the students returned from break. She told us that they have started learning to write their first and last names. They are working on adding and subtracting. They are also working on their sight words, reading, and spelling. They even spelled a few words for us. Good job students!

After we went to Mrs. Osner’s class, we came back upstairs and talked to Ms. Speck about what the students are doing in her 4th Grade class. She told us that they are learning about Colonial America. In math they are learning their fractions. We even got to interview two of her students, Anna Livingston and Austin Bell. Let’s see what they said!

First, we asked Anna what her favorite subject is in class right now and she said math is her favorite subject. “I like multiplying and adding the most,” Anna told us. We also asked her what the most interesting thing in class is to her and she told us that she likes learning about the Buffalo Jump. The Buffalo Jump is a Native American Story.
Next we interviewed Austin Bell. We asked him what his favorite subject was and like Anna, he told us math. “I like learning fractions and doing subtraction,” Austin told us. He also told us that he likes learning about the Buffalo Jump.

The last place we visited was Mr. Wilmott’s 4th grade P.E. class. We asked them what they have been up to. They have been playing Four-Corner Soccer all week. They also have daily warm-ups. Their Monday warm-up is 14 push-ups. The Tuesday warm-up is 14 sit-ups. Wednesday they do 40 jumping jacks. Thursday they do 10 laps. On Friday they do 28 Mountain Climbers. Looks like he’s keeping these students busy!

3...2...1 New Year's Resolutions!

Resolutions made by the KMS/KES school staff range from living a healthier lifestyle to more hunting. As we walked around the school asking the staff what their new year’s resolutions were, we got lots of different answers. Mr. Waldschmidt, the teacher all about hunting, wants to hunt more next year, and plans to achieve this by making more time to go. Preschool Para, Samantha Youngers, wants to take better care of herself for the sake of her children, and plans to start by the first of February. We find that starting later makes it easier to not break your resolution.  Mrs. Hageman also plans to be healthier, she walks 3 to 4 times a week and is off to a great start! Mrs. Munz plans to exercise more to benefit herself.  Being bookworms, we find Mrs. Dixon’s resolution to be close to our hearts. She wants to read six books that would be good for her. She plans to achieve this by reading a book every two months. What a great way to start out the year! We can all learn a lesson from Mrs. Knoblauch’s resolution; she wants to try to be more patient by taking deep breaths.  When we asked Ms. Stimatze about her resolution, she said, “I don’t make resolutions, because you make it to break it.”  Now that you’ve heard theirs, what’s yours?
