The book of the week
is The Mortal Instruments. Many students in Kingman Middle have been
interested in this series. It begins when the main character Clary Fray goes to
a club in New York City where she witnesses a murder committed by three
teenagers. This is her first encounter of Shadowhunters. They are warriors that
commit their lives to killing demons. That is also where she meets the
Shadowhunter Jace. Within twenty-four hours, Clary’s mother disappears and she
is yanked into Jace’s world of demons, vampires, and werewolves. Why would
demons want anything to do with a normal girl like Clary? Why does she suddenly
have the Sight? Clary, Jace, and the other Shadowhunters would like to know…
