Teacher Appreciation Week

Last week was teacher appreciation week!  We appreciate our teachers for teaching us and helping us become contributing members of society.  Teachers play a huge part in life. Our parents are teachers, because they teach us to be respectful.  It is important to thank all teachers for their work and patience.  Many people don’t appreciate their teachers, but they should.  Sometimes students give teachers a lot of stress and grief. Teachers have to stay calm set a good example for their students. They have to maintain their composure and self-control.

Summer Vacation!

Summer time is coming soon and a lot of people will be travelling. Travel is full of good times and bad times and usually people focus on the good times. Students and staff at Kingman Middle School were asked about what things they don’t like about travelling. Two people said that what they don’t like about travelling is that they get bored. Many people get bored while on a vacation, either over time or instantly. Two more people said that the worst thing about their vacation is not being able to see friends. Unless you are lucky enough to bring a friend on your vacation, you are usually not going to see your friends for the whole time of the vacation. One person said that the thing they hate about vacations is that they don’t have a pay check. Wherever your vacation takes you, it will have its good times and bad. But no matter what, you’re still on vacation!

My Favorite Word

Have you ever had a favorite word? Well, I’m pretty sure everyone has come across a word that has piqued their interest sometime. The question “What is your favorite word?” was asked to some KMS students. Megan Kostner said her favorite word was simply “cheese,” and when asked why she chose it, she said, “It’s the first word that came to my mind.” Konnor Thornton said his favorite word was “Calibunstreouse,” which probably isn’t a word. Bailey Beck said his favorite word was “pristine.” Taji McClafflin said her favorite was the word “dizzy,” which she answered while she was spinning in circles. Mrs. Dixon said her favorite word was “love,” and she also said it was her most frequently used word. Mrs. Roe said her favorite word was “really?” which she said was followed by rolling her eyes at her children. Deanna Cheatum said her favorite was in two words connected together, which are “Yeahman.” She said that she frequently used that word when she talks to people.

Conspiracy or Not???

Do you believe the government hides secrets from the public?  100% of all the people asked in this survey said “Yes.” The people asked were Regan LaRue, Megan Kostner, Nathan Myrick, Naomi Spalding, Mrs. Dixon, Kellie Krabel, and Cameron Boyston.  Other than the above people, others also believe that the government hides things from the public.  Some people believe that the government faked the moon landing.  Some also believe that the government is hiding aliens in area 51.  Area 51 is an air force facility that is used as a testing facility. Some people believe that the moon isn’t real and is actually a hologram put in the sky.  The last conspiracy theory is spy sharks, which some people took seriously.  The Egyptian government took this somewhat seriously, but said that it needed to be confirmed.

School's Almost Out for Summer!!

Summertime is approaching for Kingman, and a lot of schools all over the United States, but have you ever wondered when schools in other countries are ending. Here schools starts around the 20th of August, and ends about the 20th of May.  In Chelmsford, England, the Boswells School starts the 3rd of September and ends the 22nd of July. That means their school starts fourteen days later and ends 31 days later. Most schools in the Province of Ontario in Canada start on September 1st and end on June 30th. This means they start twelve days later, and end forty days later. Moscow School District #281 starts school on the 1st of September, and ends school on the 5th of July. That means they start school twelve days later, and end school 48 days later. Though a lot of these schools have more school time, they usually have more days off. This gives you a comparison of our school system with those of other countries.

Simple Question

The KMS students were asked the following question:  “If you were famous, what would you be famous for?”  There were a lot of diverse answers to this question.  Two people who answered the question said “I want to be known for being a kind person.” Of course, these are kind people at our school.  Two other people said “I want to be known around the world for being good at sports.” This tells you these two people are active and love sports.  Therefore, there is kind of a lesson in this question. You can sometimes know a little bit about someone, simply from their response to this simple question.

Dream Job!!

What is your dream job?  At least once in our lives we have thought what our dream jobs would be.  Students from KMS/KES were asked the following question: “What is your dream job?”  Kaleb Mark said his dream job was to join the military, but he never specified what branch he would like to join. Caitlyn Myrick and Hailey Neises said their dream jobs were become veterinarians. Vets are basically animal doctors, so they do whatever doctors do, but for animals. Wyatt Smith said his dream job is to become a drummer in a well-known band. Laythan Martin wanted to become a cop, but he didn’t know what kind of cop yet. Logan Webb said he wanted to become a rockstar for a band that he wanted to make in the future; he wants to play guitar in the band. Finally, Abigail Clover said she wanted to become a scientist and create and find new things.

Get Some Rest!!!

Kingman Middle/Elementary School has a late start on Monday the 27. What will they be doing on the 27? Riley Johnson will be riding his BMX bike in the morning.  Bailey Taylor, Josie Albin, Abby Wells, Cady Zoeller, Deanna Cheatum and Nate Myrick will be all sleeping in. Taij McClaflin will be staying up so she will sleep.

Why is it good to get an extra hour of sleep? It’s good to get an extra hour of sleep because there have been around 33% of students reported falling asleep in school. Clearer thinking would be another reason because sleep loss affects how you think, it impairs your cognition, your attention and your decision-making. Studies have found that people who are sleep-deprived are substantially worse at solving logic or math problems than when you are well-rested.

Sooooo, get some rest!!

Teacher Inservice Day

On April 13, Kingman Elementary/Middle School will be having no school. The day will be a teachers' in-service day, that means only teachers will go to the school. Teachers usually have an idea of what goes on at school on a in-service day, but the kids usually don’t. On the last late start day on March 30, the teachers talked about things going on in the school. One of the things they talked about was changes to tornado drills. Another thing they talked about is how they could increase school attendance, and they looked at the suggested schedule. They talked about the results of the Seminar survey in February. For the teacher in-service day on April 13, teachers will have to be in Mr. Conard’s Room by 7:45. There they will talk about a variety of things. A lot of the things will be about how to change the school, and feedback from the teachers about past changes. From around 8:15 - 9:15 teachers get into the PLC groups to discuss the topics that are given to them and discuss other topics as needed.

Happy Easter!

Easter was on April 5, which was the first Sunday of the month.  Easter celebrates Christ’s resurrection.  Many Christians think that the bunny and the eggs are a distraction to people, and they don’t remember Jesus’ resurrection.  However, most Christian churches have the service and then afterwards they have an Easter egg hunt.  There were two questions asked to some students at Kingman Middle School.  The first question was, “What are you doing this Easter?”  Some answers were:  going to grandma's, Easter stuff, going to church, eating food, hanging with the family, going to grandparents, doing family stuff, church, and more family.  The second question was, “Have you seen the Easter bunny?”  Some answers were:  no, nah, yaaas, negatory, no, yes, yeh, no.  It appears not many people go to see the Easter bunny now.  Anyway, hope you had an amazing Easter!

Music Contest

On April 8th, the Kingman Middle School eighth grade choir and band are going to take part in the Music Contests. At the contest, they have chosen four different songs to sing. The songs they all sing together are Old Dan Tucker arranged by Neil Ginsberg, Come to Me, O My Love arranged by Allan Petker, Beautiful December arranged by Amy F. Bernon, and No More Sailor Songs arranged by John Parker. Two of the four songs that they sing, Come to Me, O My Love and Old Dan Tucker, the entire eighth grade sings together. While the other two are ensemble pieces, Beautiful December for the girls, and No More Sailor Songs for the guys. Some students that are participating in the contests were asked, "What is your favorite piece?"  Ian Rottering, Dylan Darling, and Adam Schwartz chose No More Sailor Songs as their favorite of the pieces. Wyatt Smith, Bailey Beck, and Alex Bennett chose Come to Me, O My Love as their favorite. Old Dan Tucker was the favorite to Noah Smith and Cady Zoeller. And lastly, Deanna Cheatum chose the female ensemble piece, Beautiful December as her favorite of the four.
