A Zonkey is a rare animal to encounter. In Florence, Italy, this rare animal was born. Her name is Ippo; her mother is a donkey and her father a zebra. Her father and mother met when her father jumped his fence into the donkey enclosure. Her mother gave birth twelve months later to little Ippo. Unlike many hybrids that don’t live a full life, Ippo has a great chance to live a long and plentiful life at the animal reserve.
Unlike Ippo, a Zedonk is when the mother is a zebra and the
father is a donkey. Unfortunately, both zedonks and zonkes cannot have an
offspring of their own. The two of these animals can live in the wild. This is
possible because both zebras and donkeys live in close proximity to one another
in parts of Africa. Most of the zonkes live in zoos all around the world
instead of the wild because they are so rare.
