Super Foods From Our Cafeteria

There have been a lot of changes in the school’s food in the last couple of years.  The food is healthier in many ways.  It is healthier because we are receiving more vegetables, fruits, and whole grain bread.  The lunch ladies have answered a few of our questions about how they prepare our food and why it is healthier than it was two years ago.

Question: How is the food healthier than it was last year?
Answer: Last year was the first year with the new regulations, but this year KSDE let us give more grains to students.
Question: Have you prepared anything differently?
Answer: No, we have been using the 51% whole wheat flour in our breads for awhile.
Question: Have you enjoyed preparing the food more than you did last year?
Answer: Yes, because we had already been through one year of the new regulations and had experience with the recipes from the state.
Question: What do you think about the food changes?
Answer: We are serving healthier meals by providing more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.

Even though the food has changed, we still appreciate the effort and hard work of the lunch ladies who prepare the food.  We also thank the lunch ladies for being nice and serving the students with a smile.  It is very important to have nutritious food, so we can do better academically and physically.
